Beauty: a universal truth or one that, as essayist David Hume put so poetically, ‘exists merely in the mind which contemplates [it]?’
It’s an interesting concept, and perhaps also why I should edit the October issue as the ‘Defining Beauty’ issue. Not just because I’m young, impressionable and still in that stage of life where everything, including the definition of beauty, is open to exploration; but also because ELLE is about female style, intelligence and wit, and what better way to reflect these values than through the most feminine concept of them all, beauty?
Moreover, having had experience in editing a student magazine, I know it takes more than just writing skills to be an editor. It takes skills in organising the team, in managing their various personalities, and in encouraging them all to create their best work possible - and then bringing it together for one cohesive vision that in turn inspires the reader. After all, ELLE is more than just pictures of the latest fashion items; it’s a magazine that women in the UK and the rest of the world read and rely on to engage them in a world of style and, of course, beauty.

Dearest Readers
..I can´t make you love me, but The October Issue is truly and purely a vision- of what we can do for love and to achieve a dream.
As you know, (I hope), this, October issue, are edited, by new visionaries in the world of fashion and style- we, the interns- had a dream and now, that dream became real, as the first love.
We were falling for our dream and the love that we shared for the magazine, like a person who got the first kiss from a loved one.
The Style Wardrobe is so much more than a wardrobe- it is a wardrobe where everything happens, where the most wonderful dresses, you ever could imagine, is hanging on puffy, sober hangers, where the dreams coming true and where the everlasting love prevails .
The Inspirations comes from what lies on the coffee table, truly, it does. Imagine yourself, some inspirational music, featuring Adele, lighting up the room with candles- so you get in to the mood, and crawl up, on the sofa with a blanket and a hot cup of coffee, tea or cocoa - your choice and a slice of a chocolate cake.
Look at the Fashion Art Illustration, on the cover and think,- what it means, (just) for you.
Love, Anna Rebecca Elgebrand

Two thousand and twelve is a year of here and now; the Diamond Jubilee, the London Olympics and editing ELLE. Such monumental events, global or personal, cause us to reflect. ELLE maps our EVOLUTION; who we were then, are now, and want to become.
At six years old I wanted to be one of three things: prima ballerina, palaeontologist or Editor of ELLE. I had no idea what this really meant, but the GLAMOROUS WOMEN in my Mum’s hairdresser read it, and I was sure it would have told me that my beloved leopard-print leggings were the height of fashion. Through teenage years it guided my fashion successes (and failures). For years it has focused my ASPIRATIONS – what I want to be at 40? ‘Editor of ELLE’. I cannot begin to explain the honour it would be to achieve that at twenty (if only for an edition). ELLE will undoubtedly shape my future too – from the tailoring of my long-coveted Chanel suit to my opinions on current affairs.
No matter what the FUTURE holds – ELLE will be by our sides guiding us through each new season with timeless style, elegance and grace. I would love to be part of that.
