Adele is the country's richest female solo artist, with earnings of £40 million in 2016 alone.

According to the BBC, The Sunday Times Rich List reports that the singer's fortunes rose from from £85m to £125m, thanks to her global tour, which earned an estimated £138m at box offices, and the continued popularity of her album, 25.

Despite her lucrative year, her wages only put her in 19th position on the chart of Britain's richest musicians.

Paul McCartney is the wealthiest with £780m, Lord Lloyd-Webber came second with £740m and U2 ranked third with £580m. Elton John and Mick Jagger followed suit with £290m and £250m.

Adele, somewhat depressingly, is the only woman to appear in the top 20. Here's to 2018!
