There are certain things at Christmas that are a given – you'll hear Mariah Carey on repeat, every man's Lynx Africa collection will be unwillingly replenished, and you might just have something in your eye from watching the John Lewis advert.

Now that The X Factor is back on, everyone's thinking about Christmas time, John Lewis ads and wine...

So when will the annual John Lewis Christmas advert, famous for turning the whole country into a sobbing mess, finally arrive?

Last year's upbeat #BounceBounce wasn't the tear-jerker the UK are used to, and it broke the tradition of it being debuted on the first Friday of November, being released on a Thursday (November 10) – meaning the corresponding date this year would be November 9.

In 2016, John Lewis teased the nation with a 10-second clip accompanied by a mystery hashtag during a Sunday night episode of The X Factor, so ITV viewers should be keeping an eye out during the breaks as we approach the live shows.

The 2016 offering told the magical story of a dog called Buster the Boxer and a little girl named Bridget.

Bridget loves jumping so much, her mum and dad buy her a trampoline for Christmas. They hide it in the garden to surprise her with on Christmas Day, but after dark, a cast of wildlife discover Bridget's present.

These computer-generated stars – two foxes, a badger, a squirrel and a hedgehog – enjoy a late-night bounce on the trampoline, with poor Buster stuck inside all the while.

Then, come Christmas morning, you guessed it, he finally gets his turn on the trampoline.

The two-minute ad was created by adam&eveDDB and directed by Dougal Wilson – the man behind John Lewis's 2011 ad 'The Wait', 2012's'The Snowman' and 2014's 'Monty the Penguin'.

Customer director at John Lewis, Craig Inglis, said back then: "2016 has certainly been quite a year, so we hope our advert will make people smile.

"It really embraces a sense of fun and magic, reminding everyone what it feels to give the perfect gift at Christmas."

And no John Lewis Christmas advert is complete without the music – so what's the song of choice for 2017?

Some people are speculating that it might feature a cover of George Michael's iconic 'Last Christmas' as a tribute to the Wham! star who tragically passed away at age 53 on Christmas Day (December 25, 2016).

Last year, London-based electronica collective Vaults took on Randy Crawford's jazz classic 'One Day I'll Fly Away'.

Before that, the music to 2015's Man on the Moon tugged at our heartstrings with Norwegian newcomer Aurora covering Oasis's 'Half the World Away'.

In other years we've had Ellie Goulding cover Sir Elton John's 'Your Song', Lily Allen doing her take on Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know' and Tom Odell performing a stripped-back John Lewis-ified version of 'Real Love' by The Beatles for 2014's Monty the Penguin campaign.

We're feeling FESTIVE.
