Emily Blunt has a stunning singing voice, but her husband John Krasinski apparently had no knowledge of her vocal chops until a few years ago, when she was filming the 2014 movie musical Into the Woods.
"I had literally never heard her sing a note," Krasinski, who married Blunt in 2010, said in his wife's new Vanity Fair cover story. "I thought that was such a cool gig, but, to be honest, I was really nervous for her." The Office alum even believed he and his wife were "at the same level of singing talent, which is low mediocre."
The first time he heard Blunt sing was during one of her recording sessions for Into the Woods, months after she got the part. When he told the director, Rob Marshall, he'd never heard his wife sing, Marshall was shocked.
"His mouth was wide open. He did not say anything. He just turned to the window, cued the song, the orchestra started playing, and Emily started singing, and I just immediately wept," Krasinski said.
"It was really wild. It was like finding out that your wife can levitate," he added. "It was just like, '"When were you going to tell me this?'"
Blunt has just wrapped up filming another musical,, which releases this Christmas. But she and Krasinski also worked on their , A Quiet Place, which premieres in April. After co-starring with and directing his wife in the thriller, Krasinski had just as much praise for Blunt's acting prowess as he did for her singing skills.
"The air changes in the room when she starts doing what she does," he gushed to Vanity Fair. "It's so honest and so pure and so powerful. It's like a superpower that she can just unlock and do so specifically with not many attempts. For me, I love acting, and I'm so lucky to be doing it. But she's on another plane. This weird intersection happened while filming where I totally forgot I was her husband. I was just watching her performance and was lucky enough to be in the front row."
Excuse us while we swoon.
A Quiet Place also allowed for Blunt to spend more time with her and Krasinski's daughters, Hazel, 3, and Violet, 1. While her husband edited the film, she was able to take the girls to children's concerts and teach them to ride scooters in Brooklyn, where the family of four currently resides.
