The BBC is reporting that the Home Office is to begin a four-week consultation on plans for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Wedding Day on May 19, and that pubs may be given special licence to stay open to 1am in celebration.

The Royal Wedding falls on a Saturday, so there will be no Bank Holiday, however Home Secretary Amber Rudd says: 'We want everyone to be able to make the most of such an historic occasion.'

'I hope that this relaxation of the licensing hours will allow people to extend their festivities and come together to mark what will be a very special moment for the country.'

May 19 coincides with two major football pictures - the FA cup final and the Scottish cup final, so pubs are preparing for a bumper weekend of trade.

Pub opening hours were extended in past years for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and also the Queen's 90th birthday.
