Sorry James Norton, but if we're all being really honest, since Idris Elba ruled himself out of the running, there's only one person we really want to see take over as Britain's favourite fictional spy.

We're talking, of course, about Edward Thomas Hardy. Now, according to bookmakers Coral, Hardy has punted Norton off the top spot, increasing his odds to 2-1 to step into Daniel Craig's tuxedo.

Craig's fifth and final film is due to his cinemas next year. Craig will be 50 when he departs the role, while Hardy will be a fresh-faced 41. And if turns in Inception and Legend have shown, he's got the sophisticated spy/killer thing mastered. Plus, you know, he goes around saving puppies.

As long as producers can dissuade him from furnishing Bond with a funny accent, we should be fine.

Watch this space.
