HBO has reportedly acquired the rights to another teenage, school-based drama and, by the sounds of it, it might actually be better than our beloved Gossip Girl.
Boarding school. Check.
Rich parents. Check.
Er, hello Gossip Girl 2.0.
Curtis Sittenfeld's Prep captured the New England boarding school scene so acutely that the New York Times wondered, "if she didn't wear a wire under her hockey kilt."
So naturally, when we heard tell that the 2005 coming-of-age novel was being adapted into a television series, we started cleaning out our DVR. Here's what we know about the new show.
HBO acquired the rights to the story, and it is currently being developed as a comedy by Colleen McGuinness, a former 30 Rock writer and producer, and Carolyn Stauss, who serves as an executive producer for Game of Thrones.
Today, Sittenfeld teased a sneak peek on Twitter. The photo only shows the cover page of the script, which again highlights writer Colleen McGuinness, but the original author's caption provided a bit of insight, comparing the pilot to My So-Called Life.
When it comes to teenage dramas, that's high-praise indeed. Though, Sittenfeld's second tweet on the matter hedged her enthusiasm a bit, "Of course, who ever knows what will happen with TV or democracies."
Everything else—casting, dates, and additional details are all TBD, which leaves us with plenty of time to revisit the text version of Lee Fiora's four years at the fictional Ault academy.
