Even the most famous people on the planet are called up to perform jury duty from time to time, but Taylor Swift was excused from attending court recently over fears of impartiality.

Taylor was spotted taking pictures with fans in court yesterday - which explains her MTV Video Music Awards absence - but it looks like she WON'T be performing her civic duty after all.

Taylor told the judge that she has a forthcoming civil case in which a DJ allegedly fondled her backstage during a concert, and was subsequently removed from an aggravated rape and kidnapping case in Nashville over fears that she couldn't be impartial.

Last year, Taylor filed a countersuit against David Mueller, who is claimed to have groped Swift at a concert meet-and-greet in 2013.

It comes after a suit filed by Mueller in September, which argued that false allegations led to him being fired and banned from Swift's concerts.

Ken Whitehouse, a spokesman for the Davidson County district attorney general's office, said: "She asked to be left off out of concern for an upcoming trial in Denver where she was – she used the term – 'groped' by a fan at a meet-and-greet."

It's not been the best year for Taylor, after things turned sour with ex Calvin Harris after she quickly moved on with new boyfriend Tom Hiddleston.

Things got so bad between them in fact that Calvin even left Taylor off his thank you list while picking up the award for Best Male Video at the MTV VMAs on Sunday.

Taylor has also been involved in a war of words with Kim after she released videos of the singer allegedly giving her approval to Kanye West's 'Famous', despite her original denials, and she continues to deny she approved the entire track.
