Despite the fact that he was scheduled to attend the movie premiere of Terrence Malick's new film Voyage of Time on Wednesday, Brad Pitt has now decided to skip the event in order to focus on his current "family situation."

In his second official statement since Angelina Jolie filed for divorce last week, Pitt explained that while he was honored to serve as the film's narrator, he did not want his high-profile divorce to take away from the movie's big night.

"Terrence [Malick]'s Voyage of Time is an incredibly beautiful and unique experiential IMAX film for children and families chronicling the birth of time," he said in a statement, according to People. "I'm very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I'm currently focused on my family situation and don't want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see."

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on Sept. 19, citing "irreconcilable differences." Since then, it has been revealed that the couple had officially separated on Sept. 15 following an alleged altercation between Pitt and their 15-year-old, Maddox. While investigations are still ongoing, a source close to Pitt told E! News that he "takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children."
