First Lady Michelle Obama was an outspoken supporter of Hillary Clinton, giving her campaign some of its most memorable speeches. But she wasn't up until 4 a.m. on the night of the election, freaking out and drinking copious amounts of wine like the rest of us. In fact, according to a new interview with People, she wasn't even awake to find out what happened.

"I went to bed. I don't like to watch the political discourse; I never have," she said, adding that it was the same when her own husband was running for president. "I barely did with [Barack]."

But despite her preferred candidate losing, the first lady says she's proud of the work she did on the campaign. "Anything that I felt about the election I said and I stand by," she said. "Once you do what you can do, then the rest is easy. It was in the hands of the American people."

Like President Obama, she now has to do her best to help the new administration transition to the White House. And though she keeps insisting she'll never run for public office, it's hard to not read her comments about the transition as, well, extremely presidential.

"This is our democracy, and this is how it works," she said. "We are ready to work with the next administration and make sure they are as successful as they can be. Because that's what's best for this country." You know what would also be best for the country? Michelle Obama running things.
