It's safe to say whoever planned 2016 dropped the motherload of negative, shameful and down-right depressing baloney all over the world.

We officially want a refund on 2016. A do-over, please.

Fortunately – and we say this with some trepidation given that the state of international politics doesn't appear to be improving any time soon – 2017 is just around the corner so, at least, we will soon be rid of this hellhole of a year.

Okay, so yes, 2016 was a rubbish year but not everything was bad.

Just take a look at our list of inspiring, ground-breaking and motivational things that happened this year too and, slowly but surely, you'll feel your hope in humanity rebuild itself. Kind of.
