"Malia and Sasha, under the strangest of circumstances, you have become two amazing young women, smart and beautiful," President Obama said during his farewell address. "[B]ut more importantly," he continued, "kind and thoughtful and full of passion. You wore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. Of all that I've done in my life, I'm most proud to be your dad."

It was the moment that brought many of us watching at home and on Twitter to tears, in large part because the President's eldest daughter was wiping them away herself.

It's rare to see the the eldest first daughter in such a candid, emotional moment. The Obamas have fiercely protected their children's privacy. The youngest Obama, Sasha, was home (it's a school night!), but Malia, having graduated and taking a gap year before starting at Harvard, could attend her dad's final speech as President.
