Following president-elect Donald Trump's vicious Twitter attack on civil rights leader Rep. John Lewis earlier this week, First Lady Michelle Obama took to Twitter with a message of her own on Monday in order to offer her support for the Georgia Representative and to acknowledge all that he has done for his country.

"Thinking of Dr. King and great leaders like @repjohnlewis who carry on his legacy," the first lady wrote on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. "May their example be our call to action."

Lewis first drew Trump's ire after he said he didn't believe he was a "legitimate president" during an interview with NBC's Meet the Press last week. The president-elect responded by attacking the representative on Twitter, saying he was "all talk" and "no action" before claiming that Lewis' district was "crime infested" and "falling apart."

Democrats and Republicans alike were quick to criticize the president-elect for his remarks, pointing out that Lewis was one of the "Big Six" leaders who was repeatedly beaten and arrested while fighting to end racial segregation in America — right alongside Dr. King. Furthermore, his remarks about Lewis' district were completely unfounded, and many called the president-elect out for his racist assumption that Lewis would have a "crime infested" district just because he's black.

Meanwhile, Lewis has not acknowledged Trump's attack against him, and honored Dr. King's legacy with several inspiring tweets of his own on Monday.
