In preparation for the tear-jerker remake, we've rounded up our list of favourite friendship-inspired films for you and the BFFs in your life:

The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants

Long before Blake Lively, America Ferrera and Alexis Bledel found fame in Hollywood, the actresses formed a lifelong friendship with fellow star Amber Tamblyn while filming the 2005 cult classic.

The plot is based on a story of four friends who stay connected to each other after graduation by passing around a pair of secondhand jeans that suspiciously fits all of them across the world. No, it doesn't make any sense but it'll be hard to find a more heartwarming tale of young friendship.

Bridesmaids

There's nothing like a sleeping pill on a flight, an OTT wedding and a van full of puppies to make you thankful for your low maintenance group of pals. The plot centres on Annie (Kristen Wiig) whose life falls apart as she becomes maid of honor to BFF Lillian (Maya Rudolph).

Cue drunken arguments, broken cookies and a lot of jealousy.

Mean Girls

Prepare yourself for an evening quoting Cady Heron and the Queen Bees of Mean Girls after watching this teen comedy. Never has a film ever so appropriately depicted social cliques, friendship, love and womanhood like this film. 'She doesn't even go here'.

Calendar Girls

Helen Mirren, Julie Walters and Celia Imrie front a group of female actress in this British classic, based on a true story of a group of Yorkshire Women's Institute members who make a nude calendar to raise money for Leukaemia Research.

If you're not wanting to eat cake and whip your bra off an hour into the film, you really need to question your life choices.

Sex And The City

Four women. One city. Heartbreak. Inspiring fashion. Need we say more?

Despite their ever-changing sex lives, careers, behaviours and fashion choices, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda show there's nothing quite as powerful as the bond of friendship. And a strong Cosmopolitan.

Frances Ha

Anyone who has ever lived with a friend or left them for a new city will know the hardship of maintaining the tight bond.

In this film, 27-year-old dancer Frances and best friend Sophie part ways as Frances travels the world before reuniting with her old friend after much heartache. There's no place like home.

Romy and Michele's High School Reunion

Those fluffy dresses and platforms alone are enough of a reason to watch this 1997 BFF favourite.

Centred on two 28 year-old women who invent fake careers to impress their former classmates at their 10-year high school reunion, this film will certainly make you feel better about your career choices and love lives while proving you don't need to be part of the 'It' crowd to be happy.

Crossroads

If you've ever wanted to take a cross-country road trip with your best friends, you'll love this film.

Starring Britney Spears, Zoe Saldana and Orange Is The New Black's Taryn Manning, the trio jump in a Buick Skylark convertible to drive across the US, learning the enduring love of friendship, the meaning of independence and the realities of life.

Thelma and Louise

In over two hours of pure female-centre golden action – apart from Brad Pitt's small role in the film –, this action/drama sees two heroines break free from their dreary lives in Arkansas, US and embark on a road trip to freedom, frivolity and die-hard friendship.

You'll never find a more inspiring film about best friends. Fact.

Clueless

The flip phones, plaid skirts and power suits in Clueless will want you and your BFFs to burn down your wardrobes and start all over again. Best friends Dionne and Cher solidify their friendship with new student Tai in this film following a plot that sees broken relationships, tested romances, fashion faux-pas and a lot of trips to the mall.

Bend It Like Beckham

Jess and Jules are an inseparable duo, joined by the love for football, despite their families anger and disappointment. Compared to films such as Dirty Dancing, Footloose, and Beaches, it highlights the need to follow your dreams and have faith in your abilities.

It also presents a team of badass female football players so, what's not to love?

The First Wives Club

Starring Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Better Midler, the plot sees three divorced women plot revenge on their ex-husbands who left them for younger women. 'Don't get mad. Get everything!' should be your BFF mantra if ever a boyfriend or girlfriend crosses you or your best mates.

Steel Magnolias

A death might not sound the best catalyst to create a closer bond between women but in this small-town community, it's ultimately what brings them together.

Starring Sally Field, Julia Roberts and Dolly Parton, Steel Magnolias – a title based on the idea that women can be delicate as a flower but tough as steel – emphasises how strong women can be.

Remember, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, people. You'll need it.
