Constance Wu is in talks to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians, per The Hollywood Reporter. Jon M. Chu is directing the adaptation of Kevin Kwan's 2013 New York Times bestseller, which will feature an all-Asian cast.

Kwan's novel centers on the intersecting lives of wealthy Asian families living in Singapore. Wu would play the lead role of Rachel Chu, an American-born economics professor who travels from New York City to her boyfriend's hometown in Singapore for a wedding. Once there, she realizes that her boyfriend is considered one of the most eligible bachelors in Asia thanks to his family's wealth, which makes Rachel the object of furious jealousy from every woman in his social circle.

Wu is a breakout performer on ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat, and has been outspoken about diversity issues like whitewashing and the under-representation of Asians in Hollywood.
