Kanye West's visit to then-President Elect Donald Trump in December drew Internet-wide surprise and outrage, particularly when Trump announced to reporters that the two were "friends".
West went on Twitter after and explained in a series of tweets that he visited to "discuss multicultural issues. These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago."
"I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change," he wrote. Then, on Feb. 6, all the tweets were removed.
There's been nothing further from West on his relationship with Trump, but Kris Jenner attempted to explain it to Ellen DeGeneres on an episode airing next week. They had the following exchange, where it became clear that Jenner is still making sense of it, too:
Ellen DeGeneres: So Kanye is – my question for you about Kanye is…is he friends with Trump? I mean, is he going to visit him again? What is happening with…
Kris Jenner: I don't think so. I have no idea. I mean...
DeGeneres: Did that surprise you when you saw that he went to go visit Trump?
Jenner: It did. He went and Corey [Gamble, Jenner's boyfriend] went with him, and they went because I think he had some, you know, issue that he might have wanted to talk about and I think that was the extent of it.
DeGeneres: We all have issues we want to talk about with him but we don't – but we're not showing up.
Jenner: He was lucky enough to get… Yeah. I think he was lucky enough to be able to get, you know, an audience and talk about whatever they talked about, but I think that, you know, it wasn't for any special intention.
