La La Land has now lost too many Oscars to break the record it was in line for. Last month, Damien Chazelle's throwback to Old Hollywood musicals became one of the most nominated films of all time, racking up 14 nods.

In recent weeks, it was speculated that if La La Land swept most—or all—of its categories, it would break the record for the most Oscar wins for a single movie. To do so, it would have had to earn more than 11 wins at tonight's 87th Academy Awards, which is the record held by Titanic, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and Ben-Hur. But as of halfway through the ceremony, La La Land haslost three awards (Best Costume Design, Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing), meaning it can't break that record.

But the night is young, and most of the major categories in which La La Land is nominated are yet to be announced. Here's to the ones who dream, etc.
