Rihanna is set to star in a new "music-filled" movie called Annette, Variety reports, where she'll appear opposite Adam Driver (a.k.a. Adam Sackler in Girls, or Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens). The project, directed by acclaimed French filmmaker Leos Carax, was picked up by Amazon Studios, marking a major catch for the streaming service.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Rooney Mara was also linked to the film, but dropped out "due to other commitments," according to Variety, leaving the producers looking for another female lead.

The script for Annette was penned by Ron and Russell Mael. The duo, who formed the "art-rock" group Sparks in 1971, are also writing original songs for the film. Not many other details are known about the movie, but if it involves a large singing component, Rihanna sounds like the right casting choice. Filming starts this spring.

Rihanna is on a roll with her on-screen projects. She's costarring in the all-female Ocean's Eight reboot, appearing in the sci-fi adventure flick Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which stars Cara Delevingne, and recently had a guest appearance on A&E's Bates Motel. And while Driver is on his last season of Girls, he'll reprise his role of Kylo Ren at the end of the year in The Last Jedi.
