Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who filed for divorce last September, spent months in a very public—and at times ugly—custody battle over their six children.

It was looking for a minute that it might quickly become one of the most acrimonious of celebrity divorce settlements that we've had to witness in the last few years.

The initial join divorce statement focused solely on the privacy rights of their children and had none of the usual love, kindness and mutual support through 'difficult times' sentiment, that many joint split statements usually do.

The divorce statement that was released to the Associated Press read:

'The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues.'

And then there were the spurious and quickly debunked child abuse allegations. But we won't give the column inches to those.

But People reports that the two are making peace and have now talked directly to each other. "It was a rough time, but they were able to resolve it," a source close to Pitt told the outlet. "This is a work in progress."

Pitt has "always been extremely positive about how Angie's a good mother, and the goal was to resolve everything for the kids and the whole family, and they're working toward that," the source added.

There have even been reports that they are determined to further one of their joint ventures together, the Chateau Miraval olive oil that they co-produce.

Here's hoping that things continue to get easier for these two.
