The first real look at Game of Thrones season seven will leave no doubt in your mind: Winter is coming. And it's wreaking holy terror in Westeros.

With the countdown to the Primetime Emmy Award-winning fantasy's penultimate season underway, HBO and Sky Atlantic have dropped a trailer guaranteed to get you hyped for the coming war.

In the brief clip, we see all three royals Queen Cersei of King's Landing, Jon Snow of the North and Daenerys of the new Targaryen empire shrouded in darkness as they each make their way to their respective thrones.

Cersei is sitting on the Iron Throne as she lets out a frozen breath, which then dissolves into the terrifying undead eye of the Night King. Spooky, right?

Just a warning from this point on we'll be mentioning potential spoilers for the upcoming seventh season, so look away now if you're a spoiler-phobe:

Today's trailer obviously sets the table for a great battle to come, and thanks to reported leaks we have an idea of what could lie ahead as The Night King's undead army marches towards King's Landing.

Supposed concept art leaked online earlier this year seemed to reveal that we'll see Game of Thrones' biggest players meeting up in the Dragonpit in King's Landing at some point this season.

If this scene makes it from page to screen, it would see Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Bronn (Jerome Flynn), a Lannister guard and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) all standing near the ruins of one of Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) dragon pits.

What could bring these opposing forces together? What if The Night King somehow managed to claim one of Dany's dragons for his undead army surely all of these warring sides would know they have a greater enemy than one another.

In terms of which characters are at risk of being killed off before the final season in 2018, actress Sophie Turner has recently hinted that Sansa Stark should be safe.

The 21-year-old star recently let slip on the red carpet that she'd be shooting both the next X-Men movie and "season eight" of Game of Thrones in the months ahead.

But will Sansa's survival lead to her (kinda) half-brother Jon Snow's downfall?

Game of Thrones season seven premieres on Sunday night, July 16 at 9pm ET on HBO in the US and simultaneously at 2am on Monday, July 17 on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
