When President Trump first announced his immigration ban in January, thousands protested the controversial executive order—including Bella and Gigi Hadid. The models joined the No Ban No Wall march in downtown New York, along with their mother and a few friends, toting a handmade "We are all humans" sign.
Bella wasn't afraid to talk about it afterwards. "We shouldn't treat people as if they don't deserve kindness just because of their ethnicities," she told Elle.com following the protests. "It's just not right."
Over a month later, the model continues to open up about the topic. The subject hits close to home for the 20-year-old, because she's Muslim and her father, Mohamed Hadid, "was a refugee when he first came to America," she said in Porter magazine. "So [Trump's immigration policy is] actually very close to home for my sister and brother and me."
"He was always religious, and he always prayed with us," Hadid said about her father. "I am proud to be a Muslim."
