Kendall Jenner is a damn good model, but if she ever wants a change, we suggest the CIA. She's international, she's stealth in heels, and—as we learned last week—she keeps secrets better than the Pretty Little Liars.

"I've known I was going to be the face of Pepsi for a while," Jenner told us from her home base in the Hollywood Hills, "But I haven't said a peep to anyone. My sisters don't even know. It's going to be like…surprise!"

Surprise, indeed. When the campaign (which we didn't get to see before this interview) launched on Tuesday, Jenner became the global face of a megabrand—one whose pop culture legacy includes work with Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, and Beyoncé.

Can Jenner's career get any bigger than this? And, more importantly, does the lean, lithe image of modern #fitspo even drink fizzy drinks? Only one way to find out—let's call the super-secret cell number that Pepsi gave us and ask her.

Hi from New York!

Hi! I'm in California right now.

Are you also drinking a Pepsi right now?

Uh, close? I'm drinking a water?

Same. Obviously you can't say no to a Pepsi campaign, but when do you actually drink soda?

That's like asking [a model], "Oh, do you eat?" Of course. I love drinking Pepsi when I'm by the pool on a hot day. And it's my thing when I'm eating watermelon and a burger. It all goes together, especially in the summer.

What about backstage at a fashion show?

If my makeup's already done, I'm really careful not to upset the makeup artists backstage. They've worked really hard making sure we all look perfect, and I never take that lightly. But I will say that every makeup artist has a straw somewhere on them, pretty much at all times. They're pros, and it's a lot easier to sip things backstage and not mess with your lipstick that way. You learn fast to always ask for a straw when your makeup is done.

You're the first model since Cindy Crawford to have a global Pepsi campaign. Did you ask for her blessing before you shot it?

Do you know that's actually one of my all-time favorite commercials? I used to watch it on YouTube all the time. But since this is supposed to be a secret from everyone, I haven't talked to her about it, but I'm excited to do it after it comes out. She just posted the most epic Instagram wearing all-Pepsi everything. I was like, "I need this outfit. I need to find the whole thing on eBay somewhere."

I mean, she came to your 21st birthday party. You shot her daughter for LOVE. Can't you just call her and ask for it?

No! [Laughing] Can you imagine? "Hey Cindy, can you just give me that really important vintage outfit?" I don't think it works like that. It's probably stored really professionally in her archives. I don't think I can just grab it from her.

I bet she'd lend it to you.

I think I'll have a better chance trying to find it online… I love hunting for vintage. And a lot of my stuff is vintage already. I'm addicted to it. I can find so many pieces online, and then I have my secret vintage spots where I shop, but I won't name them because I don't want people to invade. They're just too good.

What about all the streetwear brands you wear? I swear, I find out about more emerging labels from you than from going to trade shows…

Seriously? It's because I'm obsessed and I troll Instagram constantly for new stuff. You know how photos on the Popular page correspond with what you look at all the time? Well, mine is mostly style pages, so all these new things pop up, and I become very determined to find out exactly who makes a pair of leggings or a hoodie or whatever it is… I will randomly find [a street style post] and somehow, I don't know what possesses me, but somehow I find who makes the outfit. It's always these random little brands, and I get obsessed with them, and I hunt them down.

Do you slide into their DMs like, "Hey, it's Kendall. Can I have those leggings?"

My stylist usually does that. But yes, most of the time, we contact them directly.

You just did a lingerie shoot styled as Marilyn Monroe. Is that where you see your career going? Someone who's like a modern Mona Lisa?

It would be an honor to be an icon like her, and to be known in the future. I'd love to leave my mark.

But there's another side of that, too, right? Being famous seems so fun, but also kind of scary. Can you go out in public and be "normal," or are people always chasing you?

Being able to slip away, that's actually something that I'm trying to be professional at sometimes. Any time I can get away I'm very happy. Any one of my friends can vouch for me on that one. I love trying to escape, because getting chased by paparazzi, it can affect my mood and my day. And the paparazzi, you know, it's come to a point where it's got to chill out.

Do YOU ever get to chill out?

I think honestly, it's a tough question, because "chill out"—it's not what you'd think it would be. Anytime I'm in a city that I'm not in a lot, it's worse because [the photographers] don't see me all the time. It makes it more of a thing to "catch" me. When I'm in LA, they wait outside my house, but I can always find my way out of it. I guess because it's home. I can drive myself. I know my way around. I can get away from it. But a place like New York is pretty bad, to be honest.

Does that make it hard to go out with your friends?

No, but with my friends, mostly we just hang out. We just all vibe off each other. We'll watch something. We'll cook.

What about making friends? What's that like as a celebrity?

I mean, for me it takes some time, but it always has. I don't let people in very easily.

You're a Scorpio, aren't you?

Yeah, but it's more like I'm a cat, and you have to earn my trust. It's a feeling I get when I finally trust people. My gut lets me do it. There's an instinct that I have to listen to.
