One of the biggest Mr. Big mysteries in Sex and the City was what Mr. Big's real name was, which was finally revealed in the show's big finale.

But the hit HBO show's producers have revealed that they almost didn't give him a name, and that they only came up with it when they wrote the series finale.

"In the last episode, in the last moment, I realized [I had] to say Mr. Big's name and I just [mimes typing on a keyboard] 'John,'"executive producer Michael Patrick King told Entertainment Weekly.

"And then I told all the writers and they were like, 'What the hell?' And I was like, 'We have to say his name because now he's real!'"

In the episode's final scene, Carrie Bradshaw's pink bejeweled flip phone (those were the days) displayed the name of her on/off lover as John, although producer Michael admitted that in his mind, Big had no name.

"It was just one of those things where it's like, 'Oh, it's happening right now' and you didn't plan it," he continued. "In my mind? He had no name."

And on why he picked the name John for Big?

"If I wanted to give him a name, I wanted to give him the most generic, American, most generic, almost pilgrim name," Michael added.

"There's no spin, it's just John."

Boy, do we miss Carrie and 'just John' in our lives...
