A new trailer for Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy shows the brothers sharing their childhood memories of the late princess. As they look through a family photo album, William and Harry both highlight their mother's sense of mischief and fun.

"She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun," William is heard saying. "She understood that there was a real life outside of palace walls."

In the clip, Harry says: "This is the first time that the two of us have ever spoken about her as a mother. She was our mum. She still is our mum.

"And of course, as a son I would say this, she was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that's for sure."

He adds: "She was one of the naughtiest parents."

The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry were just 15 and 12 when Diana died aged 36. In April, Harry spoke publicly about how he finally learnt to grieve for his mother. In an interview with The Telegraph, he revealed that it was only in his late twenties, after two years of "total chaos" and coming close to a "complete breakdown", that he fully processed his emotions.

The new documentary is due to be broadcast by ITV later in July. Jo Clinton-Davis, controller of factual, said: "This new ITV film will offer viewers a fresh and revealing insight into Princess Diana through the personal and intimate reflections of her two sons and of her friends and family, many of whom have never spoken before, to bring together a definitive portrait of a unique person who touched the lives of millions."
