Mariah Carey's early life is being adapted into a TV drama, because not every single thing happening in 2017 is terrible. Per Deadline, Starz—the network behind Outlander and American Gods—is developing a scripted series based on Mariah's experiences during her rise to fame, and the queen herself is executive producing.

Set in 1986 New York City, the untitled drama will follow an ambitious biracial singer-songwriter who, at 16, has made it through a rough childhood and will go on to become the biggest-selling female artist of all time. Nina Colman will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Carey and Brett Ratner.

If you're thinking a Mariah TV show sounds vaguely familiar, you're not wrong—E! did air a reality series named Mariah's World last year. But, to be honest, Mariah's life transcends the boundaries of reality and fiction.
