What happens when you invite the Obamas to your wedding? Well, the former First Couple might not show up to your nuptials, unfortunately; but they'll still write you back and wish you well. That's exactly what happened when one woman asked Barack and Michelle to attend her wedding ceremony earlier this year.

According to her daughter, bride-to-be Liz Whitlow mailed an invitation to the Obamas in March, and just received a response at the end of July.

"MY MOM DEADASS SENT THE OBAMAS A WEDDING INVITATION BACK IN MARCH AND JUST RECEIVED THIS IN THE MAIL. IM HOLLERING😂," her daughter Brooke enthusiastically announced in a now-viral.

Here's what the note said in full:

"Congratulations on your wedding. We hope that your marriage is blessed with love, laughter, and happiness and that your bond grows stronger with each passing year. This occasion marks the beginning of a lifelong partnership, and as you embark on this journey, know you have our very best for the many joys and adventures that lie ahead."

So, yes, the Obamas just raised the bar in polite invitation declines. (Their stationery is quite enviable, too.) The former POTUS & FLOTUS don't always miss out on big events, however. They've previously attended weddings for White House aides (where Barack was a groomsman), presidential advisors, and the family chef during the Obama presidency.

And to clarify, Whitlow let her daughter know that the current president did not receive an invitation.

It turns out Whitlow is not alone. After seeing Brooke's tweet, several others responded with their own stories about writing the Obamas about major personal events (i.e. more weddings, graduations, births, and even deaths in the family) and receiving a letter in return.
