Today family and friends held a memorial service for Heather Heyer, the 32-year-old woman who was killed while counter protesting a white supremacist rally Charlottesville, VA on Saturday. James Fields has been charged with 2nd degree murder after driving his car into the group of counter protesters, killing Keyer and injuring many others.

At the memorial service, family spoke of how Heyer had always been a kind and outspoken person, and her mother had strong words for those who opposed her daughter's stance: "They tried to kill my child to shut her up. Well, guess what? You just magnified her."

Many mourners were wearing purple, reportedly Heyer's favorite color, and now remembrances using that color are spreading online.

Heyer's mother, Susan Bro, said she's been sent "pages and pages" of notes from well wishers, wanting to know what they can do to help. "I want this to spread, I don't want this to die." said Bro. "This is just the beginning of Heather's legacy. . . you need to find in your heart that small spark of accountability. 'What is there that I can do to make the world a better place?'" She asked the crowd to "channel that anger into righteous action."
