Suits is the second most popular show on cable, right below Game of Thrones. But it's never received so much attention as when one of its stars, Meghan Markle, started dating Prince Harry. And it turns out that level of fame has had a big impact on Markle's castmates. In an interview with Esquire, star Patrick J. Adams, whose character is engaged to Markle's, said the public frenzy led him to delete his social media accounts.
Until recently, Adams was active on social media. But all that changed when he marked the 100th episode of Suits (and Markle's birthday) by posting a cute photo of himself with Markle, her kissing his cheek. The intentions were sincere, but the reaction was too much to handle. "I posted this old photo I had found of Meghan and I on set," he said. "I went to bed, and woke up in the morning and realized 'Oh, yeah. I live in a world where you can't post things about Meghan.'"
The photo became part of a vicious cycle of celebrity gossip, and it was Adams' breaking point. "I had this onslaught of people retweeting the thing, people thinking it was a recent picture, and I just thought, 'What the hell is going on?' It was such an innocent moment of sentimentality that was twisted into something totally different," he said. "It made me feel like… why put myself through this? We're like brother and sister, it's not like it was lurid or anything, but it just became a story that people wanted to talk about."
