Anyone who has read Gloria Steinem's compelling and inspiring book, My Life on the Road, won't be surprised to hear that a film adaptation is on its way.

The illuminating memoir documents her revolutionary career as an activist, writer, lecturer and leader, from her nomadic childhood to the present day, truly a tale worthy of the big screen. Deadline reports that Julie Taylor will direct the film, with previous work having included Frida, Across the Universe and Titus. Playwright Sarah Ruhl will write the script, while Lynn Hendee is among producers.

"I can't imagine anyone more magical than Julie Taymor — or more understanding than Lynn Hendee and Sarah Ruhl," said Steinem. "So now that we are on this journey together, I hope and believe the result will encourage many more travellers — especially women in all our diverse realities — to tell our own stories."

Casting for the film has not been revealed, but the role of Steinem will undoubtedly be hugely sought after.
