On Monday night, Chloë Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham—two teens who found love in a SoulCycle class then broke up last September only to get back together roughly a year later—made their public debut as a couple in New York City. They hosted an event together and posted Instagrams of themselves in their matching denim looks.

What makes their relationship work with the world watching, Moretz told ELLE.com Tuesday at the Forevermark Tribute Collection launch event in New York City, is truly open communication. "We just try to keep things as private as possible and you know, everything [we share] is discussed," she said. "And everything is an open line of dialogue between the two of us, and we're happy, and we kind of got it down to a science."

Moretz also discussed why she wouldn't give her younger self dating advice, how she finds strength as a woman during the Trump era, and what men can do to be better allies to women. Below, her conversation with ELLE.com.

What dating advice would you give your younger self on how to find a good partner?

I think I'd give my younger self advice on something other than just how to find a good partner. I'd give my younger self advice on how to be your own woman and to not look at the headlines and to not look at the comments and to try to keep your chin up and to be your own person and know that nothing ever really happens in the perfect way. There is no perfect way. There's only your way and the best you can make out of some situations.

It's been a hard time to be a women watching the news with the public discussion of sexual assault and mistreatment of women across industries. How do you find strength being a woman right now?

I think we find strength in numbers, you know? I think communication is key, and you can really see that right now in [the entertainment] industry in particular. You know, all the women standing together and all the strength we're seeing in this industry, you know, as hard as it is to read these headlines of what's coming out, it's also a beautiful thing to see these women standing together and not being afraid to tell their stories and tell their truth. So I think as scary as it is to be a woman right now in this time, our voice is the most powerful thing that we have, and that's our biggest weapon.

What would you like to see men do more to support women?

I think men need to come out and to not hide from it and not pretend that they didn't know about the stories, that they've been happening. I think we all knew. I think we've all been aware of it and to say that you were unaware of it is to lie and to save face. And I think the most important thing men can do right now is to tell the truth and not hide behind secrecy and lies and try to act like they didn't know.

What do you do for self-care when it becomes too much?

Meditation, I think, is very important and just self reassurance and to check in with yourself. I think silence is a big deal. You know, don't get so caught up that you're on your phone 24/7. You really need to find time by yourself whether that time by yourself is meditating or if meditating's too much for you, if you're reading a book, you know, but something that involves silence and that involves you, yourself, and your thoughts I think is the most important thing you can do. And for me, that's definitely the way that I keep myself at a very safe mental health space.
