The first trailer for John Krasinski and Emily Blunt's first movie together, A Quiet Place, was released today. Information about the mysterious movie has been has been kept largely under wraps since it was announced in March, but we can still glean a few clues about its plot from the trailer.

The teaser trailer shows Blunt, Krasinski, and two young actors portraying a family living in what appears to be a normal, if not a bit ramshackle, house in the woods. What follows, however, unveils a deeper mystery surrounding this home that forces all its inhabitants to keep silent.

The family goes to great lengths to avoid making any noise; they don't wear shoes, step in pre-determined spaces on the floor, play board games with fabric pieces, and use sign language to communicate with one another. But when one of the children accidentally drops a lamp and causes a loud noise, a mysterious presence that surrounds the house starts pursuing the family. Now, they must attempt to escape or simply survive, all while staying silent to keep the creature from finding them.

No details other than the trailer have been released about the film, though it's clear that sound and silence will play a big part in the movie's plot and what's to come for these characters. No words were spoken throughout the trailer, and even the final shot of Blunt's character's desperate scream for help is silent, a chilling twist on the classic horror movie scream

Krasinski and Blunt are joined by Wonder star Noah Jupe and Wonderstruck actress Millicent Simmons, who is deaf, as their children. Michael Bay is producing the film.

A Quiet Place hits theaters 4th May, 2018.
