Many celebrities took part in the Women's March this weekend, advocating for issues including women's rights, racial equality, LBGTQ rights, and healthcare reform.
And speaking to the crowd of marchers in downtown Los Angeles yesterday, Scarlett Johansson used her speech to call out one person in particular: James Franco.
Addressing over 500,000 people in the crowd, with more watching via a livestream at home, Johansson asked, "How could a person publicly stand by an organization that helps to provide support for victims of sexual assault while privately preying on people who have no power?"
And she didn't stop there. Following her pointed question, Johansson said, "I want my pin back, by the way."
According to the Los Angeles Times, they received confirmation from Johansson's representative that her comments were directed at Franco in particular.
Earlier in January 2018, Franco was accused of sexual misconduct by several women, following his win at the Golden Globes. The actor had worn a Time's Up pin at the ceremony, showing support for the movement which aims to eradicate sexual assault and inequality for people in every industry.
However, Franco's affiliation with Time's Up was called into question by several women, one of whom told the Los Angeles Times of working with Franco, "I feel there was an abuse of power, and there was a culture of exploiting non-celebrity women, and a culture of women being replaceable."
At the Women's March yesterday, Johansson also discussed relationships in her own life that have negatively affected her. She revealed, "I had many relationships, both personal and professional, where the power dynamic was so off that I had to create a narrative that I was the cool girl who could hang in and hang out, and that sometimes meant compromising what felt right for me."
