Kate Moss remains an enigma, and part of her mystique is that she is a woman of few words – publicly at least. However, the 44-year-old supermodel has shared some intimate details about the time she was famously scouted as a teenager at JFK airport.

Speaking to Love magazine, Moss recalled thinking she was the 'bees knees' at the time because she had recently lost her virginity when she was approached by the brother of the founder of model agency Storm Management Sarah Doukas.

'I was smoking,' the star recalled. 'I was 14 and I'd just lost my virginity. So I thought I was the bees knees.

'I was in the airport puffing away. I'd got on the plane and then Sarah [Doukas'] brother came up to me and said, "Have you ever thought about being a model?"'

Moss admitted that she had 'never, never, never' contemplated a career as a model before she was spotted, because she was 'short' and self-conscious about her 'crooked teeth'.

'I was short, I had bow legs and crooked teeth and nobody thought I was the prettiest girl in the school,' she continued.

She also revealed that she wouldn't let her daughter Lila Grace model at such a young age, adding: 'I mean, I was alone as well. I wouldn't let my daughter do it that young. I was just thrown into an adult world.'

And, despite gracing the covers of over 100 fashion magazines, Moss confessed that she only started to feel confident as a model recently.

'No [I wasn't confident at the start of my career], not until much later,' she said. 'It's not really until quite recently that I know, not that I'm good at it but it is something that I can do. But that's probably years and years of training.'
