Stormy Daniels has started crowdsourcing funds for her upcoming legal battle with Donald Trump, in preparation for any fees she may incur by speaking publicly about the alleged affair she had with Trump over a decade ago. She posted the fundraiser on CrowdJustice and, as of Wednesday afternoon, she had already raised over $125,000 (£90,000) (i.e. basically the amount of money she reportedly received for signing the non-disclosure agreement that's stopping her from telling her story).

'I am attempting to speak honestly and openly to the American people about my relationship with now President Donald Trump and the intimidation and tactics used against me,' Daniels wrote on the fundraising page. Her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, confirmed in a tweet that the page is in fact real.

The Wall Street Journal published an article earlier this year reporting that Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen, paid Daniels $130,000 (£93,000) to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Trump. According to the contract Daniels signed, she could be liable for $1 million (£715,000) every time she violates the confidentiality clause of the agreement in question. She's now trying to fight that contract to make the NDA null and void because, allegedly, Trump never actually signed it himself.

'Rather than agree that the NDA is invalid, thus allowing me to talk, Mr. Trump and Mr. Cohen have instead attempted to hide the facts from the public using a bogus arbitration proceeding and have threatened me with millions of dollars in damages ($1M each time I speak out) if I tell the truth about what happened,' Daniels wrote on the page.

The fundraiser is supposed to help Daniels cover her attorney fees, out-of-pocket costs, arbitration, security expenses, and any damages awarded against her if she loses.

'I am more fortunate than many, many people in this country. And for that I am grateful. But unfortunately, I do not have the vast resources to fight Mr. Trump and Mr. Cohen alone,' Daniels wrote. 'Thank you for supporting me.'
