Guys, we've all been duped.

Remember last month when Kim Kardashian posted a Snapchat recording of a phone call between Kanye West and Taylor Swift where Swifty can be heard saying her mention in his controversial single Famous was 'a compliment kind of' and then she turned around and said it was a lie?

Well, it appears the apparent feud was all a big laugh at our expense because the pair are thought to be performing together at this weekend's MTV Video Music Awards.

Good one guys, you got us.

According to reports, West has been given free reign at this weekend's award show, with creative freedom to fill his 4-minute slot with whatever he likes – a rap, a dance, a cartwheel. Anything.

Meanwhile, despite reports suggesting Taylor won't be attending the awards (presumed to be because her music videos were snubbed by the judges) the 26-year-old has just touched down in New York (where the VMAs are happening, FYI) making everyone think she's preparing to perform a surprise appearance with Kanye West.

Now, we know Kanye loves a surprise at an awards show.

Remember when he interrupted Swift's accepting speech for Best Female Video at the 2009 VMAs?

Or when he pretended to ruin Beck's acceptance speech for winning the Grammy award for album of the year, as a joke?

Or when Tay Tay came on stage at last year's VMAs to present the Life of Pablo singer with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award before he gave a riveting 11-minute speech...?

West – ever the joker.

Given Kanye and Taylor's rollercoaster of a friendship, we wouldn't be surprised to see the 22 singer duet on stage with her frenemy before the duo hug on stage and skip into the distance together.

We wait with bated breathe.
