One thing we've learned today – The Rock is a big softy.

Yesterday, Dwayne Johnson (better known as 'The Rock') announced Scottish actress Karen Gillan would be joining the 'Jumanji family' as she has landed the female lead in the sequel opposite himself, Kevin Hart and Jack Black in the new production.

In a post to Instagram, Johnson gushed:

'Ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to announce a girl who's playing the most important role in our movie – the talented, beautiful and down for a Scottish fight at any time, Ms@KarenGillanOfficial. And yes, this is the girl who is so bad ass she shaved her freaking head for Guardians of the Galaxy.'

Comedian Kevin Hart also got in on the action, welcoming the Doctor Who actress to the role:

Er, is anyone else loving this female lead love-fest right now?

Gillan's lead role comes after her Hollywood blockbuster role as Nebula in 2014's Guardian's of the Galaxy – a gig that required the 28-year-old to shave her head – to which she'll return to the film's sequel next year.

According to Johnson, the Jumanji gang will start filming next month in Hawaii but was keen to point out, 'this isn't a remake or reboot, but a continuation of the awesome Jumanji story we love.'

Alright Dwayne, what ever you say but nothing can beat the original. Fact.
