After changing the way we make friends, communicate with each other and relive painful memories of our ex-lovers forever, Facebook deity Mark Zuckerberg has decided to cure all diseases known to humankind.

The 32-year-old and his wife Priscilla Chan have pledged $3bn (£2.3bn) to fund medical research over the next ten years.

Talking at a press conference in San Francisco, they said their goal was to "cure, prevent or manage all diseases by the end of the century".

After pointing out the world spends 50 times more money on treating people than riding the world of the diseases they made them ill in the first place, Zuck outlined three core strategies:

• bringing scientists and engineers together

• building tools and technology that advance research

• growing the movement to fund more science around the world

All of which sounds both commendable and fantastic, and should ensure future generations are sharing gifs, humblebragging about their relationships and posting opportune rants about politics deep into their 150s.
