As I sit here staring pensively out of my apartment window on East 73rd, I spot a a group of girls sashaying towards Madison Avenue – one walking in a pair of emerald green Hangisi embellished mules talking into her iPhone, another carrying last season's Mulberry – and I couldn't help but wonder, what is Sarah Jessica Parker up to these days?
*Bites lip, ponders for a second then drags on a Marlboro Light*
Well, according to a group of girls I overheard gossiping in the Magnolia Bakery the other day, SJ – as we call her – is returning to the spotlight as the star of HBO's new comedy Divorce but has yet another gig lined up – she's launching her own book publishing imprint.
According to these women (and The New York Times), the 51-year-old actress has been taken on by Hogart publishing house as an editorial director – a role that will involve finding, editing and pushing three to four novels to publication a year.
And, I thought to myself, what does Parker have that I don't?
Well, apparently, a stronger penchant for reading.
'I have always loved to read for the same reason I love to act, which is that other people's stories are more interesting to me than my own,' she told the newspaper.
'People have tried to bottle the smell of old books, but it's the most elusive thing, like trying to recreate a great story. You can't, which is what makes it special,' she added.
While Sarah Jessica Parker is on track to becoming a beauty, television, fashion and literary mogul, I'm going to pour myself another cosmopolitan.
