Forget taking 300 selfies, photoshopping your crows feet, adding six-and-a-half filters and then posting it with your #wokeuplikethis hashtags.

For Instagram has added a new functionality that let's you connect to friends in a less contrived, super-low-key way, by finally joinging Team Livestream.

Twitter might have started this whole floating-heart-emoji livestream deal with their Periscope app and Snapchat might have started the whole disappearing posts trend, but Instagram have combined the two to make your next foray into social media a very ephemeral one.

Launching today among certain test users and then rolling out gradually over the next few weeks is Instagram Live Video, which will be part of their Instagram Stories service.

The app will let you livestream from within stories, with the videos disappearing once the streaming is done.

So bed hair and smudged lipstick is fine, because your friends will have a very limited screen-shotting window, to hold it against you for posterity.

Added to this new release are further changes to Instagram Direct - the Insta-messaging part of the app.

You'll now be able to send pictures and other posts directly to your contacts or to people in a group.
