The holidays are for family togetherness, eating tons of food, and binge-watching Netflix shows. (Or at least having their yule log playing constantly on the television.) Now, you can keep watching shows like The Crown, even on the bus ride to and from your parents' house. That's because Netflix is letting you download your favorite movies and TV shows so you can watch them when you have no signal.

The company made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday morning:

According to a company blog post, you can now go to the details page on a movie or show and click the download button, so you can watch it later. Some titles are already available for download, and more will become available later. Downloads are now available for all plans, for no extra cost, but only for phones and tablets on Android and iOS. Just make sure you have the most recent update on the Netflix app.

The feature is similar to what is already available for Amazon Prime members. If you're a Prime subscriber, you can use the Amazon Video app to download select videos and TV shows to your phone or tablet, sometimes for a limited time, so you can watch while you lack signal or simply don't want to rack up data charges. But the Netflix announcement changes the game when it comes to the site's original series and movie catalog.

The Netflix app now has an "Available for Download" section that can help you find stuff to pre-install for your next long trip or subway commute. Though Gilmore Girls is weirdly not on there, Black Mirror, Stranger Things, and Orange Is the New Black are there for you when you need an escape from family.
