Just when you're getting into the intricacies of a plot and falling into its fictional labyrinth, here comes along a random old sportsperson, model, politician or television presenter who wants to add yet another string to their bow in the fickle world of entertainment.
Lance Armstrong in Dodgeball, Quentin Tarantino in Django Unchained (and every single other one of his darn films), Donald Trump in Home Alone: Lost In New York. Cheryl Cole in What To Expect When You're Expecting.
Heck, even Garry Barlow in Heartbeat was a step too far.
And, lo' and behold, it looks like Kim Kardashian is the latest A-lister to fall victim to such cameo whims as the reality star and her youngest sisters have just been snapped on the film set of Ocean's Eight.
Yesterday, Kim and sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner were spotted on the film set of the new spinoff Ocean's trilogy, starring the likes of Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling and Rihanna.
Kim was seen sporting a sheer, floor-length, white gown with a white fur jacket while Kendall rocked a white short-sleeved, high-neck gown with diamond earrings.
We highly doubt they tucked into some spaghetti bolognese after filming – can you imagine the mess?
However, it's not the first time Kim has flexed her cameo muscles in Hollywood, having previously stared as herself (we guess she's a method actor, then) in 30 Rock, Brothers, Beyond the Break, Drop Dead Diva and the voice of her character in American Dad!.
According to Page Six, there's a scene in the up-coming film that involves the Met Gala so we can expect to see some of the biggest players in the fashion industry making an appearance in the film, including designers Alexander Wang, Zac Posen and Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
We're not quite sure what Kim's role in the film will entail but one thing's for sure, if the Kardashian's are involved, it won't be subtle.
