Domestic Abuse Make-Up | ELLE UK

When we think about our make-up bag essentials, what makes the cut?

When you are only taking hand luggage on a two-week holiday, do you take moisturiser, toothpaste, serum, shampoo, conditioner, mascara, maybe a bb cream, probably some concealer?

Now imagine you have only minutes to leave, children to take with you and you realise that the less you take, the quicker you can leave and the longer it will take for your abusive partner to realise that you have gone - what do you take in that case?

Probably nothing.

This is what Caroline Hirons thought when she started writing a blog post about her make-up essentials, then ended up on this page on the Refuge website.

She looked guiltily at her make-up cabinet, full of unused samples and once-used gifts and realised she could help.

So instead of writing her blog post, she started Give & Make-up instead.

Give and Makeup is a non-profit initiative whose sole purpose is to get everyday essentials into the hands of women and children who need them the most.

They work with three different women's charities, including Refuge, trying to get make-up, as well as toiletries and clothes to women who have escaped abuse.

And you can help too.

Give & Make-up's page has a full list of all the things you can donate, but they include clothing, make-up, toiletries.

So if you have any lying around, do send them to:
