It's time to bid a sad farewell to another Time Lord - the Twelfth Doctor Who since 2013, Peter Capaldi.

Capaldi, who replaced Matt Smith, has released a statement as he steps down from the enormously famous role on British television.

'One of the greatest privileges of being Doctor Who is to see the world at its best. From our brilliant crew and creative team working for the best broadcaster on the planet, to the viewers and fans whose endless creativity, generosity and inclusiveness points to a brighter future ahead,' he said.

'I can't thank everyone enough. It's been cosmic,' he went on.

For those wondering when they might expect to bid the actor goodbye, the actor's role will come to its conclusion in this year's Christmas special 2017.

Season 10 of Doctor Who will begin this April. Let the rumour mill commence about who will become the Doctor during his regeneration.
