A lot has happened since August 2016 – the month the world bid adieu to Justin Bieber on Instagram.

Bob Dylan won a Nobel prize, Brangelina broke up, Leonard Cohen, Gene Wilder, George Michael and Carrie Fisher passed away, a Cheese String won the US Presidency.

However, after six months of radio silence, the Bieber has returned to the social media platform, to do exactly what 'the Biebs' does best – promote himself.

On Saturday, the 22-year-old crooner posted a clip of a Super Bowl advert for T Mobile, which sees him discuss the evolution of dance and football.

The return to Instagram comes six months after the Canadian-born star deleted his account, after receiving a barrage of negative comments on his pictures with his rumoured girlfriend at the time, Sofia Ritchie.

On the final picture he posted, he warned his 78 million followers: 'I'm gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don't stop the hate this is getting out of hand.'

'If you guys are really fans you wouldn't be so mean to people that I like,' he added.

Following his post, his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez – who is currently dating singer The Weeknd – commented on the picture, writing: 'If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol - it should be special between you two only.

'Don't be mad at your fans. They love you and supported you before any one ever did,' she continued.

After numerous heated exchanges between the pair, Gomez then apologized in a Snapchat photo with the words: 'What I said was selfish and pointless', according to the BBC.
