Right now, film fans across the world are tuning into the 89th Academy Awards.

However, for one group of tourists in Hollywood, their tour turned out to be a little bit more fruitful than they'd ever imaged it might.

They inadvertently gatecrashed the biggest, star-studded event of the year – a surprise organised for them by the Oscars 2017 host, Jimmy Kimmel.

Tonight, a group of unsuspecting tourists on a Hollywood tour bus were led into the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where the likes of Ryan Gosling, Viola Davis and Andrew Garfield sat in darkness, awaiting their arrival.

When the doors of the theatre opened, the tourists walked into the famous theatre to a round of applause, much to their shock.

On arrival, Ryan Gosling stood to his feet to greet the Oscar 'guests', giving what appeared to be his programme to one fan and a kiss on the cheek to another.

Nicole Kidman, who sat alongside her husband Keith Urban couldn't contain her excitement, with the Lion actress even receiving a kiss on the hand by a tour bus visitor.

Meanwhile, Denzel Washington joined the group to say 'hello' and take a selfie with one of his biggest fans.

Minutes later, Jennifer Aniston was asked to give the group something from her purse by Jimmy Kimmel, which prompted the Friends star to pass him a pair of her sunglasses.

Unfortunately for Kimmel and the Academy, the surprise has caused controversy among social media users, with some suggesting it was a cruel ploy to embarrass the public for laughs.

However, others are praising the fan moment and calling Ryan Gosling the 'nicest guy in Hollywood.'
