Donald Trump Has A Theory To Explain That Oscars Mishap And It's As Bonkers As You'd Imagine

The President of the US has given his two cents on why La La Land was incorrectly named winner of the 'Best Picture' Oscar over Moonlight, and it's classic Trump.

We presumed the 89th Academy Awards would be full of political statements, inspiring speeches on the subject of unity, solidarity and justice in the face of fascism, racism and misogyny and, of course, the odd Donald Trump joke.

After all, the 2017 Oscars rounded off a stellar awards season where the likes of Meryl Streep and Emma Stone sprinkled their Golden Globes acceptances speeches with nods to the current political climate.

So, for the Oscars, it was up to host Jimmy Kimmel to set the tone for the night, and let's just say, he didn't hold back when it came to tackling the President of the US.

In his opening monologue, Kimmel spoke out against Trump's immigration ban, his 'strained relationships with certain countries' resulting in more than '225 countries that now hate us', and the ongoing feud between Trump and actress Meryl Streep after he called her 'overrated'.

'Nice dress, by the way,' Kimmel told Streep. 'Is that an Ivanka?' he joked, referencing Ivanka Trump's clothing line which has now been dropped by US department store Nordstrom.

Then, of course, came the most embarrassing moment of the night in all of Oscars history when Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announced that La La Land had won 'Best Picture' when the win was actually intended for Moonlight – an incident that followed weeks of contentious debate surrounding the films' diversity in terms of race, sexuality and politically-relevant themes.

Despite an apology from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which has long been in charge of the Academy's ballet-counting process, in which they admitted to having given the presenters the wrong category envelope to announce the winner of 'Best Picture', Donald Trump has another theory behind the awkward gaffe.

Hold onto your seat belts, people, because his reason is pure gold.

In an interview with news network Breitbart, Trump revealed the night's attention to US politics was to blame for the mix-up.

But, of course.

He said: 'I think they were focused so hard on politics that they didn't get the act together at the end.'

'It was a little sad. It took away from the glamour of the Oscars. It didn't feel like a very glamorous evening. I've been to the Oscars. There was something very special missing, and then to end that way was sad,' he added.

Yeah, I'm sure talk of your apparent inadequacy as a President is the real reason for the envelope mishap, Trump.

While you're at it, why not blame Storm Doris and Nicole Kidman's weird Grinch-hand clapping on political chatter about you being a nincompoop?
