Look, I've never been much of a Belieber myself but you've got to hand it to the Canadia-born singer, his fourth studio album Purpose was an absolute cracker.

Even his most staunch critics could be seen dropping it to 'What Do You Mean?' at a house party and repeating the 'doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo' bit of 'Sorry' when it came on the radio.

And, how weird is it to think it's been almost two years since he released his critically-acclaimed album. Oh, how the time flies.

So, imagine our delight when Justin posted several black and white images to Instagram last night of himself working on new music in a recording studio.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen – the Biebs is back.

Last night, Bieber took to Instagram to share news of his latest recording ventures, with images showing him playing the piano and staring confusingly into a microphone in front of sheet music.

Sadly, the lyrics to his future hit (of course it's going to be a belter, it's Bieber) are blurred out so we'll just have to wait until the tune drops in due course to find out exactly what musings have inspired the 23-year-old.

While it has been a while since the crooner gifted us Purpose, we can hardly critique the guy for slacking in recent months.

After all, following the release of the album, he set sail on a year-long international tour which reportedly grossed close to £159 million.

All hail the Biebs.
