When we first heard DC Comics was set to release Wonder Woman this year, we must admit, we were slightly dubious as to the representation of Israeli actress, Gal Gadot.

After all, the fictional 'superheroine', who is based on Greek mythology, has long been synonymous with a corseted leotard, a golden lasso and, let's face it, a slightly Barbie-esque but pretty bodacious figure.

For years, Wonder Woman has struggled to shed her image as mostly a sex symbol, with a little sprinkling of superpowers.

Following press screenings of the new film in the US last night, several film critics and writers have taken to Twitter to review the blockbuster and, from the sounds of it, it didn't disappoint:

Jog on Batman and Superman, there's a new hero in town.

And, yeah, it's a woman and she is here to stay.
