With a marriage that's lasted 18-years, the world has long been intrigued to know the secret to David and Victoria Beckham's happy relationship.

Having shared four children together, and two successful careers as a footballer, pop star and in recent years fashion designers, the Beckhams are an inspiration to couples for their ability to protect their children from the limelight, keep their love burning after years of scrutiny, and support one another across different time zones.

However, the 43-year-old fashion designer recently joked that if she 'really was as miserable' as she looked in pictures, she 'certainly wouldn't be married anymore'.

Discussing her marriage with David, the star told Vogue Netherlands: 'David and I have a lot of fun together.

'If I really was as miserable as I look in some of those paparazzi pictures, my children wouldn't be as happy as they are. And I certainly wouldn't be married anymore,' she added.

Of course, it's no secret to say that behind the steely poses on the red carpet, Victoria Beckham is hilarious behind closed doors, having once revealed she doesn't like to smile in public because of her insecurities.

'I don't know if it's the years of being photographed and the criticism but I just feel exposed and vulnerable and uncomfortable, and I can't be myself,' she told Sunday Times Style magazine last year.

'I can't wait till I'm off [the red carpet] and we can all just have a drink, throw our heads back, and who cares if your lip gloss has worn off? You can relax,' she added.

And Victoria isn't the only one to suggest she has a good sense of humour, with her best friend Eva Longoria admitting the former pop star 'smiles and laughs a lot', during a television appearance on Loose Women in 2015.

Just last year David Beckham posted a photograph of his wife smiling to Facebook with the caption: 'See I told you she smiles.'

Later in her interview with Vogue, the proud mother also revealed how she fits in her fitness regime while looking after a brood of four.

She said: 'I go for a three mile run every morning and I work out for an hour with a PT, which gives me just enough time to get to the kitchen to puree Romeo's avocados.'

'His toast jumps out of the toaster the minute he comes down for breakfast,' she added.

She later divulged about her feelings towards ageing, months after she received an OBE for her contribution to fashion.

'I'm not perfect, [I] don't have to look like I'm 25. I'm 43, that sounds worse than it feels.

'I focus on what I've accomplished and I feel blessed,' she added.

Sounds like a pretty nice way to feel, Victoria.
