Over the years, Rihanna has shown she's not afraid to experiment with different hair colours and styles.

From curly brown locks and a jet black pixie crop, to a blunt blonde fringe and bright red curls, the Barbados beauty defies convention and has show she can pull of pretty much any 'do.

However, it appears the 29-year-old has gone one step further in changing her up look for her role as a shape-shifting alien entertainer for Luc Besson's latest film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

On Sunday, the singer posted a behind-the-scenes video in which she opens up about how 'blessed' she feels to be part of the film and shows off her variety of on-screen looks.

The clip shows Ri's character, Bubble, in a variety of costumes including a Cabaret-inspired outfit, an Egyptian queen, a blue gooey blob, a blonde Marilyn Monroe-like star and dressed in a motion-capture suit with CGI dots.

Benson describes the singer as 'super sweet, obviously not scared of the camera'.

However, in a recent interview with Glamour magazine, RiRi's Valerian co-star Cara Delevingne admitted the 'Umbrella' crooner is as much hilarious as she is sweet.

'There was a moment where Luc was trying to make her cry, to be emotional,' said Delevingne, who plays Laureline in the film

'He was like, "Imagine that you get told that your song hasn't gone to number one and your performance is really bad". I knew she wasn't going to give a sh*t — that's not the way to get into her emotion. And she literally said, "You're kidding me? I couldn't care less." That was funny,' she explained.

However, for Rihanna, it appears one thing she really does care about is being part of Besson's history of filmmaking.

'He's creating this incredible world,' Rihanna says in the video. 'When I saw my name on the poster for Valerian, it got real. I'm so blessed to be having this experience.'

We can't wait to Rihanna do her thing in this Lost In Space-come-Labyrinth-come-Avatar style film.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is out in the UK on 2 August. Check out the trailer for the film below.
